About the Tennis Director

Alex Wong, a Newton native, will be returning to Sudbury River Tennis Club as its director of tennis. In the off season, Alex is the head women’s and men’s tennis coach at Bentley College in Waltham, MA. Alex came to Bentley in August 2003. Last season, he led both teams to the NCAA tournament as the women's team won a share of the Northeast-10 Conference regular season title, and the men's team reached the Northeast-10 Conference championship match for the second year in a row.

In each of his first two seasons at the helm of the men's team, Wong led the Falcons to the NCAA tournament, the team's first appearances in the tourney since 1996, amassing a 28-23 overall record and an 18-4 mark in the NE-10. On the women's side, his teams posted a 37-10 mark in conference play and are 44-41 overall since he began his collegiate coaching career.

Alex graduated from Wesleyan University, where he spent four years as the #1 singles player for the Cardinals. He was ranked in the top 15 in the East Region his final three seasons, climbing as high as #8 in the east and #32 nationally in 2002. He was also named All-NESCAC in 2002. During his college years, Alex was a tennis professional at several clubs in the area, the most recent at the Wellesley Country Club. In the past six years, Alex has served as a pro at New England Team Tennis in Concord, the Oakley Country Club in Watertown and the Belmont Country Club. He coaches and teaches adults and children of all ages and abilities. He has also trained junior competitors for regional and national events.
